Drum Sergeant Grant Cassidy

Grant started his drumming career at the age of 3, taught by his dad John Cassidy. His first band was Lanarkshire Grade 4B, where he was being tutored by legendary drummer, Bert Barr. The Lanarkshire Pipe Band and North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Band combined in 2005, which saw him appointed as leading drummer where he remained for 4 years winning numerous band and drum corps championships. Bert also tutored Grant privately for 6 years, and became a very close family friend.

In 2008 Grant made the jump into Grade 1, joining the House of Edgar – Shotts and Dykehead pipe band, under the leadership of Drum Major Jim Kilpatrick, MBE, at the age of 13 making him one of the youngest drummers in history to play in Grade 1.

A part from the pipe band scene Grant is renowned for his success in solo drumming championships and has won the Juvenile World Solo Drumming Championship for 6 consecutive years from 2006 – 2011, and winning his first aged 11. Grant’s first solo competition was at 6 years old.

He also has experience in teaching. Currently, Grant provides his expertise at Bothwell Castle Pipe Band and Uddingston Strathclyde.

Grant has travelled the world through drumming and his most recent trip was to Australia in 2011 teaching at the Canberra Pipes & Drums Annual Workshop.

Grant continues to enjoy success and experience with the House of Edgar – Shotts and Dykehead Pipe Band and competing at solo drumming contests on a regular basis.
